On Feb 11, 2016, innkeepers, restaurants and business members who participated in the 12th Annual Pies on Parade Pie Tour presented a check to the Area Interfaith Outreach (AIO) Food Pantry and Fuel Assistance Program for $25,000 representing all ticket sales, silent auction and raffle proceeds, cash donations from the annual pie tour. This brings the total donations for AIO’s food and fuel assistance programs to more than $134,000 from the Pies on Parade’s twelve-year tenure.

Once again this year, the Rockland Pie Tour sold out all 615 tickets prior to the event, indicating the “pie-passion” among those visiting Rockland on a chilly winter Sunday.  More than 45 varieties of pies were baked and an estimated 9000 pieces of pie were consumed by pie-eyed tour goers. Twenty inns, restaurants and businesses collectively donated more than 600 hours of time and thousands of dollars in products and services to ensure a sizable donation could be made to the food pantry once again this year.  Additionally, 50 gift certificates, gifts, artworks and items were donated to the silent auction and raffle from businesses throughout the Midcoast.  Maritime Energy matched the $2,000 raised from cash donations dropped into the collection oil cans and special events during the pie tour.

Behind the scenes, work has already begun in planning the next Pies on Parade Tour. You see, for the past 12 years, the innkeepers from Historic Inns of Rockland have poured their hearts, souls and pie dough into this event. With a strong commitment to the Rockland community, the Pie Tour falls in line with the sustainable travel footprint the three inns are committed to providing. Tourism with a cause has always been an important mission for the Historic Inns of Rockland, who have supported the community via publicity and events for nearly fifteen years. And speaking of “dough”, collectively, the Historic Inns of Rockland have donated more than just time and pies. This group of dedicated innkeepers has single handedly underwritten a publicity campaign that put Rockland on the map over the past 15 years.

The 13th Annual Pies on Parade event promises to be an even larger extravaganza of pie and community spirit.  Scheduled for Sunday, January 29, 2017, tickets will go on sale the Friday after Thanksgiving. Stay tuned for highlights.
