5 Travel Tips to Enjoy a Great Vacation

Vacations, whether they be one night or more are the time to unwind, and finally give yourself permission to relax. While having fun is goal number one, recharging the batteries and rekindling the romance are wonderful side effects of getting away too, no matter how long or short the escape might be.  Everyone needs time to regroup and revitalize.  The three Historic Inns of Rockland each specialize in providing the ideal environment for rest, relaxation and romance.  But just to be sure you get the most for your Midcoast Maine coastal getaway vacation time, here are a few tips to think about before you set out.

Decide what to bring and what not to bring

Some believe in packing the bare minimum and others bring the vast maximum.  Women tend to enjoy having choices of outfits, whereas men think bringing two shirts and two pairs of socks is plenty. Just be sure to bring clothing that will be appropriate for your adventure.  The weather on Maine’s midcoast can be fickle in March. If you plan some hiking or outdoor adventure, don’t forget a jacket and the right footwear.  If you plan to take a walk on the Rockland Breakwater, be sure you have sturdy boots.  If all you want to do is sit by the fire, read a good book, and snuggle, then don’t forget the good book. The rest is up to you! (Although you’ll find plenty of great reading material at our inns too!).

Consider a package

While some travelers want to plan their getaways, others would prefer to leave the planning to someone else.  The Historic Inns of Rockland have created a number of packages offering added value or an itinerary for your escape both during the high season and also the quiet season.  A popular choice is the Savor The Flavor Dine Around package. Available Wednesday through Saturdays, this fabulous package gives you a chance to experience “tasting menus” from your choice of three wonderful restaurants in downtown Rockland with an evening of culinary adventure anytime between now and May. Just give us plenty of notice, so we can be sure to set up this package for you.

The Savor the Arts of Midcoast package allows you to spend two days at signature museums and two nights relaxing at your choice of the three Historic Inns of Rockland including the Granite Inn, Berry Manor Inn and LimeRock Inn.

Plan to Unplug

Your Historic Inns of Rockland getaway is one of those rare times when you really get to unplug.  You’ll start feeling the sense of relief the minute you walk into your coastal Maine inn’s door.  We assure you, you’ll want to unplug.  Be sure to leave the number for the inn with those who might need to reach you at home, just to give yourself that sense of security, but plan to turn off the electronics and focus on the two of you.  Don’t worry, everything at home and the office will be fine and can wait!

Arrive Hungry

One of the best ways to indulge in a much needed getaway is to pamper your appetite too. And Rockland is a foodie town.  Come in early March (March 1-12)  and you’ll get in on Maine Restaurant Week, with special offers for three-course meals from Rockland and nearby coastal Maine  restaurants. Every Historic Inn of Rockland serves a sumptuous breakfast to start the day and offers afternoon refreshments, teas or evening receptions.  You’ll find homemade pie and ice cream at the Berry Manor Inn, a bottomless cookie jar at the Granite Inn and a guest pantry filled with drinks and snacks at the LimeRock Inn. You’ll be well fed, we assure you, so leave the diet at home and enjoy every morsel.

Have Fun!

This one’s simple, but surprisingly often forgotten. Have fun during your vacation, and don’t let the little things bring you down. Let go, and enjoy the stars from the porch of the inn – all three of them have lovely front porches. You never know, with the way the weather has been this winter, it’s likely to be warm enough for some porch sitting in March! Or sit by a crackling fire and warm your feet and heart after a day of exploring Maine’s Midcoast. Have a cup of tea or a glass of fine wine,  and forget about your work and routine while you’re gone. Most of all, as they say “love the one you’re with”. If you can do this, you will have the best time while reviving, refreshing and rejuvenating.
